Railroad bridge art

The Burlington Santa Fe railroad bridge over Central ave near downtown recently had some artwork added along the pedestrian walkway. There are several old photographs of the area near the bridge. The walkway runs underneath the bridge on both sides of the road. The first photo dates from the 1930's and shows workmen paving Central avenue near the bridge.

The second photo show the location of the photos under the bridge.

There are many other photo showing the area near the bridge. There are photos of the old Albuquerque High School and other buildings in the Huning- Highland neighborhood.

Our Lady of Kazan

Our Lady of Kazan is a Russian Orthodox monastary located in the Barelas neighborhood about 5 blocks south of downtown Albuquerque. The website http://www.kazanmonastery.org/ says it was founded about 25 years ago and engages in bee-keeping, herbalism and iconography.

Barelas is an unusual location for a Russian Orthodox monastery. It is a mostly lower income hispanic neighborhood near the railroad tracks. I have never heard of anyone having a problem with monks as their neighbors.
